Emberfall Chronicles
Emberfall Chronicles is the kind of RPG I keep going back to. The combat is turn-based but never sluggish, with a positioning system that makes you think about where your fighters stand, not just what button to mash. Each party member has a distinct role, and swapping them around for different fights actually changes how a battle plays out.
The story is told through short, well-written scenes between towns. It doesn't overstay its welcome, and the writing has a dry sense of humor that grew on me. Leveling is generous enough that you're not grinding for hours, which suits a phone game well.
Everything is stored locally, so you can dive into a dungeon on a flight and pick up right where you left off. The save system is solid and I never lost progress.
What we liked
- Smart positioning-based turn combat
- Writing that's actually worth reading
- Fully offline with reliable local saves
